What is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift (thighplasty) is a surgical procedure designed to improve the contour of the upper legs by removing excess, lax skin and, where appropriate, localised fat. It is most commonly performed following significant weight loss, age-related skin laxity or changes in tissue quality that cannot be corrected through exercise alone.

The procedure reshapes the inner and/or outer thighs to create a smoother, more proportionate leg profile. Liposuction may be used adjunctively to refine contour and improve transition zones. In selected cases, thigh lift surgery may be combined with additional body contouring procedures to address surrounding areas.

The approach is tailored to the degree of skin excess and anatomical findings, with the aim of restoring balance while maintaining natural thigh contour.
At The Oxley Clinic, every Thigh Lift procedure is carefully tailored to your individual body shape and aesthetic goals. Our approach focuses on removing excess skin and fat while contouring the thighs to create a firmer, smoother, and more toned appearance. Using precise surgical techniques and personalised treatment planning, we aim to achieve natural-looking, long-lasting results with minimal scarring and careful attention to optimal healing.
How is Thigh Lift Surgery Performed?
A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the thighs to create a firmer, smoother contour. During the surgery, the surgeon makes a carefully planned incision, removes the surplus tissue, tightens the remaining skin, and closes the incision with sutures for optimal healing.

The procedure is performed under sedation and usually takes a few hours. After surgery, you will spend time in the recovery area where our nursing team will monitor you and ensure your comfort before you return home the same day.
Thigh Lift Surgery Risks and Considerations
All surgical procedures carry potential risks. With thigh lift surgery, swelling, bruising and temporary changes in skin sensation are common in early recovery.

Delayed wound healing can occur, particularly in areas of tension such as the groin crease or along vertical incisions. Fluid collection (seroma), asymmetry or contour irregularity may occur and occasionally require further treatment.

Less commonly, bleeding, infection or wound separation can develop. As with all major surgery, there is a small risk of blood clots.

These considerations will be discussed in detail during consultation to ensure informed decision-making and realistic expectations.
Thigh Lift Surgery Aftercare & Recovery
Aftercare: A compression garment is usually worn for the first 4–6 weeks to reduce swelling and support contour. Keeping the legs elevated when resting during the first 1–2 weeks can help minimise swelling. Dressings should be kept clean and dry until your initial review. Appropriate analgesia and mobilisation advice will be provided on discharge.

Recovery: Swelling, bruising and tightness are common in the first 2–3 weeks. A follow-up appointment is typically arranged at around one week to assess healing. Light daily activities may resume gradually, but strenuous lower-body exercise, heavy lifting and wide leg abduction should be avoided for approximately 6 weeks.

Wound Care: Incisions should be kept clean and supported. Scar therapy, such as silicone-based products or taping, is commonly recommended for several months once wounds have healed. Scars are initially firm and pink and typically soften and mature over time.
What is a thigh lift?

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the thighs to create a firmer, smoother, and more contoured appearance.

Who is a good candidate for a thigh lift?

Ideal candidates are individuals with loose or sagging thigh skin due to weight loss, ageing, or genetics. Candidates should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations.

How is a thigh lift performed?

During the procedure, the surgeon makes incisions, removes excess skin and fat, tightens underlying tissues, and closes the incision with sutures. Liposuction can be used alongside the procedure for enhanced contouring.

Can liposuction or Vaser be combined with a thigh lift?

Yes. Liposuction or Vaser liposuction can be combined with a thigh lift to remove excess fat and refine the shape of the thighs for smoother, more defined results.

What is the recovery time after a thigh lift?

Most patients can resume light daily activities within 2 weeks. High-impact exercise and strenuous activity should be avoided for 6–8 weeks, with full results appearing after several months.

What are the risks and complications of a thigh lift?

Risks include scarring, swelling, bruising, changes in skin sensation, poor wound healing, fluid accumulation (seroma), infection, and asymmetry. Your surgeon will discuss all risks during your consultation.

How should I care for my thighs after surgery?

Wear compression garments and keep dressings dry. Elevate your legs when resting, use micropore tape on scars for up to 3 months once healed, moisturise the surrounding skin, and gradually return to normal activities as advised by your surgeon.

Where will the scars be located after a thigh lift?

Scars are usually placed on the inner or upper thigh to minimise visibility. The length of the incision depends on how much skin needs to be removed, ranging from a small incision to one that extends along the inner thigh.
