Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, buttocks, or neck, to improve body contour and shape.
Vaser liposuction is an advanced ultrasound-assisted technique that breaks down fat cells before removal, allowing for more precise body sculpting and smoother skin contours compared to traditional liposuction.
Ideal candidates have localized fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise, good skin elasticity, and are in overall good health. Liposuction is not a weight-loss method.
Common treatment areas include the abdomen, arms, thighs, hips, buttocks, back, calves, ankles, and under the chin. In men, it can also reduce excess breast tissue caused by gynecomastia.
During liposuction, the surgeon makes small incisions and uses a cannula to suction out fat. Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound energy to break down fat for easier removal and improved skin shaping.
Most patients can resume light activities within a few days, return to normal daily activities after 2–3 weeks, and avoid strenuous exercise for 4–6 weeks. Full results may take several months to appear.
Risks include bleeding, infection, contour irregularities, fluid buildup (seromas), numbness, fat embolism, and rare complications such as organ injury or lidocaine toxicity. Risk increases with large-volume procedures or multiple areas treated.
Wear a compression garment as advised, keep wounds clean, drink plenty of fluids, and follow scar care instructions such as using micropore tape for the first 3 months. Gradually return to normal activities and avoid strenuous exercise until cleared by your surgeon.
