What is Botox?

Botox is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments for reducing visible signs of ageing. This quick and minimally invasive procedure can soften fine lines and wrinkles, helping to create a smoother, fresher and more youthful appearance without surgery.

Designed to target expression lines caused by smiling, laughing and frowning, Botox treatments can refresh the face while maintaining natural facial movement and expression.

Our experienced aesthetics team focuses on delivering subtle, natural-looking results that leave you looking fresher and more rejuvenated.

What can areas you treat with Botox?

Botox can be used to treat a wide range of facial and medical concerns, including forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet and smoker’s lines around the mouth.

It is also commonly used for gummy smiles, chin dimpling, jaw slimming and necklace lines on the neck. In addition to facial rejuvenation, Botox treatments can help with excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and teeth grinding caused by overactive jaw muscles.

Botox Treatment Procedure

The Botox injection process is quick, simple and minimally uncomfortable, typically taking around 5–10 minutes to complete. No anaesthetic or antiseptic preparation is usually required, and most patients are able to return to normal activities immediately afterwards.

Results begin to develop gradually, with initial improvements often visible within a few days. Full effects typically appear within 4–7 days as the treated muscles begin to relax, revealing a smoother and more refreshed appearance.

Botox Aftercare & Recovery

After your anti-wrinkle treatment, you can usually return to normal activities straight away. Mild redness or small pin-prick marks may appear around the injection sites but typically settle quickly.

To achieve the best results, avoid rubbing the treated area and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours, as advised by your practitioner. Results usually begin to appear within 72 hours, with full effects visible after around two weeks.

Contact your practitioner if you experience unusual side effects such as prolonged swelling, bruising, irritation, infection, or drooping.

Botox Risks and Considerations

Anti-wrinkle treatments are generally safe, but possible side effects can include mild swelling, bruising, headaches, or temporary drooping of the eyelids or eyebrows.

Rare but more serious complications may occur. Treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and you should inform your practitioner about any medical conditions or medications before treatment.

How should I prepare for the Anti-Wrinkle treatment?

The Oxley will work with you to maximise the effects of any treatment. The following considerations should be made:

  • Consultation: We will ensure a detailed consultation with our surgeons. We will explore what treatments are best tailored to your personal goals. Please share any relevant medical history, including allergies, medications, and any previous cosmetic treatments.
  • Plan ahead: Schedule your Botox appointment at least 2 weeks before any special event to allow full results to develop.
  • Avoid Certain Medications: Unless prescribed, avoid taking blood thinners (like aspirin or ibuprofen) to reduce the risk of bruising. Your clinician may also advise stopping certain supplements, such as Vitamin E or fish oil.
  • No Facial Treatments: Avoid facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion 1-2 weeks before your Botox treatment to ensure your skin is in the best condition.
  • Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising.
  • Arrive with Clean Skin: Make sure your face is clean and free of makeup or other products when you arrive for your Botox appointment.

What should I do after my Botox treatment?

Although the downtime of injections is minimal, we recommend the following advice:

  • Stay Upright: For at least 4 hours after the procedure, avoid lying down to help the Botox properly settle into the muscles.
  • Avoid Touching or Massaging the Treated Areas: Don’t rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas for 24 hours to prevent spreading
  • Avoid additional make-up for 24h.
  • Exercise: Wait 24 hours before engaging in strenuous exercise or activities that might cause excessive sweating.
  • Avoid Heat: Avoid hot tubs, saunas, or direct sun exposure for the first 24 hours to reduce the risk of irritation or increased swelling.
  • Bruising and Swelling: Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site is common and typically resolves in a few days.

When will I see results?

It may take between 3 to 14 days for the full effects to appear.

Do Anti-Wrinkle Injections Hurt?

The injections are quick and cause minimal discomfort. Some patients feel a slight pinch or pressure, but the procedure is generally well-tolerated.

Is there any downtime after Botox?

Botox treatments typically have little to no downtime. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure, although it's recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and heat (e.g., saunas, hot tubs) for 24 hours.

How long will my botox last for?

This can very person to person but Botox typically last between 3 to 6 months.  Over time, the treated muscles gradually regain their ability to move, and the wrinkles or excessive sweating may start to return. Further treatments can then be performed.

Can I get multiple treatments at once?

Yes. It is not uncommon for our experienced clinicians to recommend a comprehensive multi-treatment approach. The consultation will create a bespoke plan tailored to your needs.
